D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - A new apartment building is now open in D'Iberville, replacing the one that burned down Mardi Gras night.
The new building features modern upgrades and sprinklers inside and out to meet updated fire codes.
Tenants started moving into the building at the Arbor View Apartments two weeks ago. The manager said all 20 units are leased. Three of the residents were tenants who lived at the apartments before they were destroyed by a massive blaze on March 4.
Former resident Krystal Gonzalez is charged with 1st degree arson. According to police, an affidavit filed in the case said investigators learned she contacted her boyfriend just before the March 4th fire to tell him she was destroying his belongings. But Gonzalez claims she left a candle burning and the resulting fire was an accident.
Gonzalez is currently free on bond.
