Pass Christian head coach Casey Wittmann says his 2014 Pirates have enough talent so he won't have to have some of his players going both ways on offense and defense. That proved to be a major factor in the win over McLaurin.
Wittmann said,"We have a lot of kids, a good mixture between youth and seniors right now and it's the first time in a long time we have nobody going both ways so we a lot of kids taking ownership of the team right now."
Quarterback Tyler Ladner had success running the Pirates offensive attack and connected on a 30-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Dedeaux.
Running back Prescott Williams and Jon Jon Williams gives coach Wittmann a solid ground game. Jon Jon bagged two touchdowns in Friday's victory on runs of 80 and 5 yards.
"People really don't see how hard we practice, that's behind the scenes,"stated Jon Jon. "What they see is the game. But if they come out here they'll realize how hard we practice and how much heart we put into this."
Counting the jamboree game and the McLaurin victory, the Pirates defense has racked up six scoreless quarters.
Senior linebacker Desean Swanier, led Pass Christian with 11 tackles on Friday.
Swanier said,"I feel like we can be contenders because I've seen how hard these guys have worked all summer. I think they have a lot of heart out here. He added,"The coaching staff is really great and these guys come out here really working hard. Last year we had 25 people and now we have 50 people and I think we have a chance to do something."@
The Pirates travel to Perry Central Friday night at seven.
