Murder suspect sought in second weekend homicide

A Hattiesburg woman is dead and police are searching for her suspected killer. 

According to Hattiesburg police, an arrest warrant has been issued for Shelvin Lanell Jones, 38, for the murder of Eboni Newsome,22.

Newsome died from what appears to be injuries she sustained in an aggravated assault according to Lamar County Deputy Coroner Andy Geske.

Hattiesburg police said they received a call of a woman laying in the roadway in the 500 block of Cox Street in the Palmer's Crossing area in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Upon arrival they found Newsome who was suffering from numerous contusions and injuries.

She was transported from the scene to Wesley Medical Center where she passed away Sunday morning.

Hattiesburg police are asking anyone with any information to contact Metro Crime Stoppers at 601-582-stop.
