BILOXI, MS (WLOX)
Fellowship gave way to prayer, prayer gave way to singing and singing gave way to messages of hope and comfort. New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Biloxi celebrated its eighth Women's Conference on Saturday.
It was part of a three day event of fellowship and worship.
About 50 ladies filled the pews and spent the day giving thanks as much in their own way as they did together.
"We're mothers, we're wives, we're sisters, we're aunts. We play so many roles in the community, in our homes, and it's so important that we're strong and have that strong relationship with God so that we can go out and be a light and a help to others," said Dr. Vera Robertson.
When Robertson brought this annual conference together, her mission was to lift up those who came through the church doors. To do that, she asked several ladies from the community to speak about personal experiences.
"Every woman has a story," said Robertson.
Patricia Griffin is one of those women. Her story fell perfectly in line with the theme of this year's conference; The Power of Intercessory Prayer.
Two and a half years ago, Griffin was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor.
"I stand here before you today because of God's answering prayers," said Griffin.
She was one of three ladies who spoke. The others, Brenda Hollins and Judy Jackson, each had their own testimony, but all three wanted every woman in attendance to walk away with a mission.
"Let us be about God's business; taking care of each other," said Griffin
The three day conference started with a day of prayer on Friday, and will end with a lady's day church service on Sunday.
