WLBT General Manager Dan Modisett announces his retirement

In an announcement to staff on Friday morning, Dan Modisett, the longtime General Manager of WLBT, announced he'd be retiring at the end of 2014.

Dan says it's time to spend more time with his family, and traveling with his wife.

He has been in the local broadcasting business for 40 years, the last 30 with WLBT.

Dan is a pillar of the Jackson community working with many public service organizations and currently serves as a Trustee of Mississippi Baptist Health Systems, and is on the boards of the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Mississippi, Transformation Jackson, and Mississippi Blood Services. The Better Business Bureau recognized him with the CEO of Integrity Award for his work in the community.

He is a past Chairman of the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters and received their Lifetime Membership for his many years of service.

He also served as President of the Greater Jackson Advertising Federation and received the Silver Medal Award for his contributions to advertising.

WLBT's parent company issued this statement: We genuinely appreciate his thoughtful and creative leadership at the station and all he has done for Raycom over the years. While we are very happy for Dan and Lisa, we will certainly miss him at WLBT. It is our good fortune to have him around for a few more months.

 Raycom, will now begin a search, internally and externally, for his replacement.
