D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - D'Iberville leaders waited 22 years to get a casino project approved in their city. Now, they must wait another 16 months for the Scarlet Pearl Casino to be built and open to the public.
Construction work is underway on the casino's waterfront property at Race Track Road, just east of Interstate110. Construction crews tell us they've hammered almost 800 piles into the ground, and they have another 400 to go. Those concrete beams will form the base of the 300 room hotel tower.
By New Year's Eve 2016, this construction site will be transformed into a $250 million resort. It will include a casino, the hotel and a miniature golf course.
City leaders expect this site to become a magnet for other developments. In fact, right before construction started, one D'Iberville councilman told WLOX News Scarlet Pearl will start a whole new life along the Back Bay that Katrina took away.
