SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - WLOX News has just learned former Mississippi Department of Marine Resources Coastal Management and Planning Director Tina Shumate will not face federal charges in the DMR corruption scandal.
According to court documents, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi dismissed Shumate's federal charges because she pleaded guilty to felony charges in state court.
Shumate pleaded guilty to embezzlement charges last Friday. She was sentenced to two years in prison followed by two years on probation. She must also pay $14,091 in restitution.
This decision ends the legal battles in federal court involving the men and women linked to corruption inside the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources.
