MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - The appointment of Moss Point's new police chief is on hold after Mayor Billy Broomfield reportedly vetoed the Board of Aldermen's decision.
Tuesday night, aldermen voted four to three to appoint Calvin Hutchins to the post. Hutchins is a Moss Point native who currently works as a sergeant in charge of the Pascagoula Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division.
Alderman Wayne Lennep told WLOX News Mayor Billy Broomfield sent a letter Wednesday morning announcing his decision to veto the appointment. It was not immediately clear why the mayor made that decision.
The last police chief, Keith Davis, said he decided to resign this summer because he was unable to see eye to eye with Mayor Broomfield.
