WAVELAND, MS (WLOX) -

A Waveland business owner was recently honored by the Hancock County NAACP. Constance St. Julien-Mims received the organization's 2014 Image Award.

Mims owns Unique Transitions Training Center, a barber and beauty college on Highway 90. She was recognized for the impact the organization says her business has had on the local economy in the short year and a half it has been open.

"One of the things we stand for is economic growth. Not only have you made it possible for other people to take care of their families, you are changing people's lives. You've made them business owners. You gave them life skills, and you've changed our community," said Greg Barabino, President of the Hancock County NAACP.

The beauty and barber college has partnered with the Hancock County Community Action Agency to offer GED courses.
