Plaquemines teacher, roommate arrested on drug charges

A Plaquemines Parish teacher and his roommate were arrested on drug charges Wednesday after police received a tip that the teacher was involved with narcotics.

New Orleans residents William West, 29, and Scott Hirsch, 36, were booked with multiple counts of possession of a dangerous substance.

After NOPD received the tip, detectives alerted the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office and an investigation was launched at the school where West works. Police learned that West was on probation from Mississippi for possession of amphetamine until September 2016.

After determining that no illegal activity had occurred in Plaquemines Parish, probation and parole officers conducted a probationary check of West's home on Upperline Street. There they found Hirsch inside a bedroom with several plastic bags of marijuana, police said.

Based on that finding, officers obtained a search warrant for the home and found LSD, hallucinogenic mushrooms and heroin.

William West and Scott Hirsch were both booked with possession of heroin, possession of marijuana, possession of lysergic acid diethylamide, and possession of psilocybin mushrooms.

West has a previous arrest for traffic violations in Orleans Parish.
