JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - There is a new development in Chris McDaniel's legal challenge to the June 24, U.S. Senate runoff election against Sen. Thad Cochran.
On Friday, the Mississippi Supreme Court assigned Senior Status Judge Hollis McGehee to preside over the proceedings.
The challenge was filed by the McDaniel camp in Jones County on Thursday.
Cochran defeated McDaniel by more than 7,000 votes in the runoff election. McDaniel claims there are voter irregularities in several counties across Mississippi.
McDaniel wants the court to put a hold on Cochran as the Republican Party nominee until his case can be heard.
