GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Break out the red, and get ready to "Run with All your Heart!" WLOX is hosting it's second annual 5K through downtown Gulfport Friday, August 15th, to benefit the American Heart Association.
Cardiovascular disease remains the number one killer of south Mississippians. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease and stroke kill 3 people everyday in Jackson, Harrison, and Hancock Counties. Last year, more than 450 people donned their red dresses, tutus, and wigs to help WLOX raise awareness about the deadly disease, raising nearly $7,000 for the Heart Association. Join us this year, to continue the fight against heart disease.
This year's registration begins at 5pm next to the old downtown post office on 13th Street in Gulfport. The race starts at 6pm at the corner of 13th Street and 24th Avenue, and winds through the heart of downtown before turning onto 2nd Street and looping back.
Everyone who registers receives a buy one get one free certificate to use at participating downtown restaurants. Top prizes for the first male and female runners are $100 gift certificates to Run-N-Tri company.
