(RNN) - Lawyers for an American imprisoned in Iran say he’s receiving death threats from militants housed in the same prison.

Lawyers with the American Center for Law and Justice say members of ISIS and al Qaeda have threatened to murder Saeed Abedini, a pastor whose family lives in Idaho, and that he has had to rely on other prisoners for protection.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has said he is essentially being imprisoned for his Christian faith.

As the two year anniversary of his arrest approaches, the Abedini family released a video of his children pleading for the president’s help in securing his release.

The video features messages from Rebekka, 7, and Jacob, 6, who said “my heart misses daddy a lot.”

“I don’t want him to miss another birthday or Christmas or Father’s Day,” Jacob Abedini said.

Wife Naghmeh Abedini has fought a public battle advocating on her husband's behalf, and calls the video "a glimpse into the torture they're going through every day missing their dad."

“As the years go by with Saeed being gone from our family, it’s getting more painful for the kids,” Naghmeh Abedini, recently told FOX News. “They’re asking ‘Mom, what can we do? We want to bring daddy home.’”

President Barack Obama previously spoke with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani about Abedini's release.

Sept. 26 marks two years since he was arrested while doing work toward setting up an orphanage in Iran.
