BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Biloxi head coach John Shannon has his team getting down to the nitty gritty on the practice field each and everyday.
Shannon said,"We want to get better each and every game. Starting this week we've got a scrimmage game Friday night against Poplarville and our guys have worked hard all summer. But running, doing 7-on-7's, running on the beach and lifting weights, that's in preparation to win a football game. We're excited to play someone else and see what we're going to be like this year."
Senior Blake Johnson is Biloxi's top gun. He was the Indians backup quarterback last season and is ready to make an impact. In limited duty in 2013, Blake completed 9 of 18 passes for 149 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
"I feel confident with our offense," stated Johnson. "We've got two big receivers returning, an experienced offensive line. They're kind of small but have the most experience on the coast."
Shannon said,"Blake is really starting to show some senior leadership, making good decisions with the football, protecting the football. We're excited to have him as our starter."
Johnson has two solid receivers in senior Kweisi Fountain No. 85 and sophomore Tim Jones #4. As a freshman, Jones grabbed 27 passes for 673 yards and six touchdowns.
"I think playing varsity last year as a freshman was really great because I know what to do and what to expect,"stated Jones.
Sophomore Nick Ross has the inside track on taking over the Indians number one running back slot.Coach Shannon says his defensive unit isn't big, but they will be aggressive.
Senior defensive end Chad Andrews is one of the leaders.
Andrews said,"The goal is to come out, play hard, play fast and play smart. Hustle to the ball and hit as hard as you can."
