PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - Every police officer needs a bulletproof vest. Pascagoula just got a grant to purchase nearly two dozen new vests.
The city just learned it qualified for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant. This federal grant is awarded by the United States Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs to state and local governments to support programs which prevent and control crime.
The $13,000 grant will help Pascagoula's police chief purchase 20 new bulletproof vests.
"We are grateful to have been awarded this grant," Chief Kenny Johnson said. "We are dedicated to doing everything we can to help protect our officers in the line of duty. This will enable us to go the extra mile for them."
