HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Are taxes going up in Hancock County? As supervisors begin to analyze next year's budget, they're considering a tax hike to make sure they have enough money to pay their bills.
The tax increase mentioned at Monday's budget meeting was $32 a year for a property owner with a $100,000 home.
Why raise taxes? Supervisors said the costs to maintain new post-Katrina buildings are just too much for Hancock County's current budget to handle. Plus, the county isn't getting as much revenue as it expected from car tags and other financial sources.
An August 29 public hearing will be held to review the tax increase proposal.
