BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Jamie Daniels is on an impressive tournament fishing roll. The Gulfport angler, and wife of Captain Ronnie Daniels of Fisher Man Guide Service in Pass Christian, has entered two competitive fishing events in the last month.

In fact, Jamie has only fished two competitive events in her brief, but now very successful, fishing tournament career.

Her first event, the Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo in July, produced a winning 16.3 pound blackfish.

This past weekend, for her second competitive event, Jamie teamed up with Katie King and Kelly Helwick to win the heaviest inshore slam overall first place in the inaugural, ladies only Southern Belle Shootout hosted by CCA of Mississippi at the Palace Casino in Biloxi.

Ronnie was also on board for the Southern Belle Shootout that was designed to get more lady anglers involved in saltwater fishing.

"Two first place finishes in one month. That's pretty exciting," Jamie said. "I was shocked when I won the (deep sea) rodeo, and I didn't think we would place this weekend either, but we were determined when we left the dock at 4 a.m. (Saturday) and we fished hard all day to make sure that we caught fish. When we won, we were shocked, and it was worth it. We all had a great time, and I know my husband likes me fishing now because that means I'm doing what he enjoys."

The crew, named Anglers Angels, weighed a 1.25 pound flounder, 8.95 pound redfish and a 2.4 pound speckled trout for a combined weight of 12.6 pounds.

Southern Belle Shootout rules state that only women anglers are allowed to fish, but men can drive the boat and help land the fish.

"They (men) helped out some, but we (ladies) caught all the fish," Jamie said. "We handled things pretty well."

For their efforts, Anglers Angels won a two-night stay and four tickets to a New Orleans Saints home game this season.

The Anglers Angels finished second in redfish while Team Salty Sway won the category at 12.3 pounds. First place in speckled trout was Fishin Chix at 3.3 pounds, and Dilligaf was first in flounder at 4.3 pounds.

An inshore slam includes catching a flounder, redfish and speckled trout on the same fishing trip. Only redfish between18 to 30 inches were eligible to be weighed.

"We had 32 teams and 74 anglers participating," CCA Executive Director Johnny Marquez said. "Best of all, the ladies really showed their skills as anglers."
