Fans flock to Colonial Life Arena for fan appreciation day

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

The Gamecock Nation took over Colonial Life Arena for the annual fan appreciation day Sunday.

Football fans of all ages gathered for a chance to meet their favorite players and coaches.

There was plenty of enthusiasm for this year's team as Carolina fans waited patiently in line to receive autographs and take pictures.

Even without the star power of a Jadeveon Clowney, USC fans were still out in full force.

"I think we have a pretty big crowd here today," Head coach Steve Spurrier said. "Somebody forgot to tell them Clowney's not here. Clowney probably signed 1,000 autographs last year event. He and Bruce Ellington and Connor Shaw. I imagine Dylan and a bunch of these guys... I'll probably sign 1,000 or more also too."

Starting quarterback Dylan Thompson said he's always excite to me the fans.

"We got great fans," Thompson said. "They always come out and support us. We just really appreciate them and just thank them for all they do us. For they are a big reason we have been successful in the past. Hopefully we will continue that."

The Gamecocks will play Texas A&M in their season opener Aug. 28.
