Caught on camera: Postal worker throws mail in dumpster

BOND HILL, OH (FOX19) -

They're supposed to be your friendly neighborhood mail carrier, but that's not the case in one local community.

Residents of Bond Hill say their mail service had been off for weeks. One man decided to record the neighborhood postal service worker on his cell phone, catching the worker throwing away the mail in a dumpster.

The three minute video shows the worker tossing multiple stacks of mail that contained bills, paychecks and other important documents right in the garbage.

"I'm so glad we got nosey neighbors like that to help people to look out for things like this," said Rhonda Alexander, who told FOX19 her mail delivery has recently been sporadic; sometimes dropped off at her front door for anyone to see, other times not delivered at all.

Alexander says the caretaker of her Paddock Road apartment complex even put up a notice saying "Mail is repeatedly being placed in the wrong box. Several residents have voiced concern. Please be more careful."

Several residents of nearby Franklin Avenue also reported they have been missing mail.

FOX19 received a statement from the United States Postal Service. They didn't say why this incident happened, but said:

"This mail was recovered and is being delivered to postal customers. The employee is not currently working pending the administrative review process. This is clearly unacceptable behavior that does not reflect the efforts of the thousands of professional, dedicated carriers in our workforce."

Alexander said she doesn't know if that mail carrier was having a bad day or what, but thinks she needs to be disciplined.

"There's a lot of people with disability, handicapped that really depend on mail. They can't really go out and do a lot of things so they put it in the mail so I just hope justice be done," said Alexander.
