WIGGINS, MS (WLOX) -

It's taken two months and $2 million, but the renovation of the Piggly Wiggly grocery store in Wiggins is now complete. Aisles are wider, the floors are new, the deli is improved, even the carts are new. Store officials want everyone to check out the new look.

Store Manager Debby Collins believes the $2 million investment in the Wiggins store is a good one.

"They believe in this community and they believe in Wiggins, and we knew that we needed to make sure that this community was taken care of," Collins explained.

Shoppers, like Florence Rawls, agree.

"That's a lot of money, but it's beautiful and I love it," Rawls said. "It's very close to me, and I shop here often, and I have watched the renovation from the beginning."

Donnie Bell also stopped by on opening day to take a look around.

"I like everything about it. It's picked up considerably and their people are good. The prices are good and the meat is fantastic," Bell exclaimed.

"It's beautiful," Gail Collins said. "I just love the store itself. I always love Piggly Wiggly, shopping here and everything, and it entices me more to come now since they renovated."

City officials, including the mayor, say the $2 million investment by Food Giant, the parent corporation of Piggly Wiggly, could mean significant economic development opportunities.

"I think it will draw more people to this area to shop here and there are some vacant buildings in this shopping center and I hope that will encourage folks to rent these buildings," Mayor Joel Miles said.

The celebration didn't end following Wednesday's ribbon cutting. Store officials say there will be door prizes and giveaways every day through Saturday.
