Gulfport has loads of talent sprinkled across the entire roster and coach Eddie Pierce is making sure the young men learn their assignments to get the max out of each and every play.
He said,"We're excited about the potential of this team. Of course you've got to live up to potential. Kids are working hard."
Coach Pierce believes his offense is in good hands under the leadership and athletic talents of Richaud Floyd. Richaud has taken over the starting quarterback duties, after Thad Miller graduated. Floyd was a wide receiver last season where he snagged 80 catches for a thousand yards and 10 touchdowns.
"He's had a great summer, throwing the ball," stated Pierce. "You know he's got a strong arm and I think he's going to give us another dimension at quarterback being able to run the ball a little bit more with him and be able to do a few more things with him than we were able to do last year."
Floyd has an array of game breaking receivers, highlighted by senior Jonathan Nance. As a junior Nance had 34 catches for 579 yards and 6 touchdowns.
J-J Smith, an Ole Miss commitment, will see more reps this season at the wide receiver slot.
Pierce said,"They do an excellent job. Jon had a big year for us last year. J-J played mostly on defense for us last year but he's had a great summer and when you put those two out there, they're going to put pressure on defense."
Junior running back Mario Clark is back, he piled up 649 yards rushing with 5 touchdowns last season.
The Admirals return the entire offensive line.
Defensively linebacker Da'jour Maddox is back. He piled up 83 tackles in 2013 and defensive back Kaleb Fredericks had 56 tackles.
Richaud Floyd committed to Missouri last week and he'll lead the Admirals against Madison Central at home in Gulfport's season opener on August 29.
