Driver in fatal Jones County accident may have been distracted by a donut

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A driver reaching for a donut caused a fatal accident in Jones County, that's according to officials.

The accident happened Sunday on North Ridge Road. Jones County deputies said the driver of a truck owned by EIS Tennessee stated he reached down to grab a donut from a box and when he looked up he saw a tractor. According to deputies, the driver said he attempted to avoid it, but struck the bush hog attached to it.

The victim, who has been identified as Eric Breland was thrown off the tractor and pronounced dead on the scene. The driver was tested on the scene for the presence of alcohol and issued a citation for an expired driver's license.

Breland was a former Reserve Deputy for the Jones County Sheriff's Department.
