DIAMONDHEAD, MS (WLOX) - WLOX News has learned the Diamondhead City Council will vote on a new city manager during its meeting next week. This is after the previous city manager, Richard Rose, was fired this summer.
Diamondhead Mayor Tommy Schafer tells us more than 20 applications were submitted for the city manager position. Tuesday night, the council is expected to vote on who they want the new manager to be.
Back in April, the council voted to suspend Rose, with pay, pending a public hearing, citing a number of problems. Rose didn't show up for the public hearing that he requested and was then fired in June.
WLOX News spoke with Rose earlier this week about the lawsuit he said he would be filing against the city. Rose says he still plans to follow through with a lawsuit, and his attorneys are working on it now.
Rose said city officials defamed and libeled him when they suspended and fired him.
We will be at the city council meeting on Tuesday and will let you know what is decided regarding the city manager position on WLOX News and WLOX.com.
