A Tuscaloosa business owner will spend the next three years in prison for fraud.
Federal judge Scott Coogler sentenced Danny Ray Butler on Tuesday.
Butler owned and operated Butler Wholesale Inc., a used car lot in Tuscaloosa, and Fosters Groceries, LLC, a company created to build a grocery store in Fosters.
Butler pleaded guilty to bank and wire fraud that cost several banks and the Small Business Administration more than $3 million.
In addition to prison time, the judge ordered Butler to repay the government nearly $2 million and pay restitution to the SBA, Next Gear Capital and Alabama One Credit Union.
