WELLFORD, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Wellford police said they have taken six siblings into emergency protective custody after they were found living in deplorable conditions.

Police Chief Jeff Bowers got an anonymous tip about the conditions at a home on the two thousand block of John Dodd Road on Wednesday. Bowers said deputies carried out a search warrant and were shocked at what they found.

"We found it to be roach infested, pigs inside the house, animals inside the house," Bowers said. "They had used the bathroom all inside."

Bowers said the kids range from 1-year-old to 10 years old were also covered in bug bites, and at least one of them had fleas. Bowers said pigs were also living under the house and had damaged the pipes causing raw sewage to leak out.

"We felt there was eminent danger for the kids," Bowers said.

The children's parents Jarrod Wiggins, 41, and Deanna Boubaris, 22, are now charged with six counts of child neglect each.

"As a law enforcement officer, the hardest thing to do is take a child from a parent," Bowers said. " But these parents need to step up and take care of the children."

Bowers said it will now be up to the Department of Social Services to determine when and if the children will be returned to Boubaris and Wiggins. Boubaris has been released on bond, and as of Tuesday evening, Wiggins remains behind bars on a $72,000 bond.

Now that fall is officially upon us, it would be nice if Mother Nature would start acting like it. Unfortunately, the summer-like heat will last for most of this week. But, there are changes on the way.
