16-year-old Biloxi soccer player receives invite to National Training Center

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - 32 youngsters from South Mississippi are participating in a three-day soccer camp.

One of the soccer players, 16-year-old Krey Easterling a junior at Biloxi High School ,caught the eye ofU.S. Soccer National staff coach Juan Carlos Michia.

He's a guest at the camp on behalf of local FC United coach, Tony Schibeci.

"Every year Fredy Clavijo and I hold a soccer camp and pretty much to identify the players that are on the coast who want to move up to the next level and have the talent that it takes to play up,"stated Schibeci.

Coach Michia travels throughout the United States searching for talent, young players who have the ability to one day play for the USA soccer team or play professional soccer.

Michia said,"We have training centers all over the country the last four or five years. We get them together and we evaluate them. See if they have a chance for the next level."

Krey Easterling was singled out at the camp. He's been invited to one of the national training centers.

"He told me he wants me to come to Atlanta and go to the Academy and practice," said Easterling. "I guess with the National team. He wants to see me, how I play with the big boys."

Easterling's father, Anthony, said Krey was raised in Germany and he started playing soccer for 12 years.

"We've been working on this ever since he was 4-years-old,"said Anthony. "That's his dream to be a professional soccer player and if he gets that chance that would be great."

Juan Carlos Michia believes Easterling has the talent to advance to the next level.

"Good left football. Good technique. Plus, all the stuff like, he has a good attitude during the game and that's what we need,"stated Michia.

He said it's not going to happen overnight but say Easterling is on the national radar for developing soccer talent.
