BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Michael Adams reunited with his biological family in Biloxi on Saturday after 48 years apart. Their reunion initially began with a phone call back in January. Adams said he called and asked for Ms. Anna McClure.

"I said, ‘oh my God, you're my son', and I just broke up. It was pretty emotional," said McClure.

For Adams, the phone call was a long time in the making. He started looking for his birth mother in 1987.

"My parents told me when I was 16 (I was adopted), and they encouraged me to find my biological mother and siblings," said Adams.

He was adopted from Memphis, TN. When he started his search more than 20 years ago, he says laws were not as helpful in aiding people find their birth parents, but it never stopped him.

"I just wanted to know. There were times I didn't think about it, but it was always in the back of my mind," said Adams.

His birth mother, Anna, has seven children. Two of them were adopted, but Michael was the only one adopted outside of the family. McClure says she always thought about Michael.

"I wondered what kind of people were raising him. Did he do good in school? Did he do sports? You know, normal, ordinary stuff," said McClure.

Michael wondered about his mother as well, but his questions were a bit deeper.

"I wondered why I was given up, what my family history was. A lot of times you need to know your medical background. Was I going to have something that's hereditary or not," said Adams.

McClure says she had to give up her child all those years ago for reasons she didn't want to discuss. Now that they have met face-to-face, the family is trying to catch up on 48 years of lost time.

"It's not sadness. It's happy. I guess you could say a page in the book has been solved. Yea, that mystery has been solved," said Adams.

Both Adams and McClure have some advice for anyone looking to find their birth families; don't ever give up. Keep looking.
