Lucedale shooting suspect surrenders to police

LUCEDALE, MS (WLOX) -

A man wanted in connection with a shooting in Lucedale Tuesday night turned himself in to police Wednesday morning.

The shooting happened Tuesday night at 10:21 on Kennedy Street. One person was shot several times, and had to be airlifted to USA Medical Center in Mobile.

Wednesday morning, Lucedale Police said the victim was in critical, but stable condition.

Derron Montrel Knight, aka "Preacher" was being questioned in the case, but so far no charges have been announced against the 36-year-old.

    A news release from Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson says a deputy shot and killed an armed suspect on Lake Vista Drive. According to the sheriff, deputies went to the neighborhood off Canal Road at 5:58 Monday night. They reportedly went there for a follow-up call involving a stolen car case from earlier that day.  "A deputy discharged his weapon and the suspect was transported from the scene to a local area hospital" where he later died, the sheriff said.
