COVINGTON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

State Auditor Stacey Pickering announced today that Former Fire Chief, Jerry Warren, has been indicted on one count of grand larceny.

Warren is accused of embezzling nearly $10,000 from the Southwest Covington County Volunteer Fire Department where he worked.

He had reportedly been doing this since 2009 by making cash withdrawals that added up to $9,450.38 from two separate bank accounts.

They say Warren also spent $356.97 in unauthorized personal purchases

OSA Special Agents and Covington County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Warren on Friday.

Since then he has been released on a $5,000 bond.

"This is another example of a long-term investigation by my Office as we continue to work to protect the taxpayers of Mississippi," Auditor Pickering said. "We believe Warren stole from the taxpayers of Covington County and he is being held accountable for his actions."
