OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - A Gulf Coast competition that started out on a statewide level is now bringing in entries from across the country. The second annual Humpback Homebrew competition brought home brewed beers from seven different states to Ocean Springs.
This year, the competition saw more than 170 entries, which was more than double last year's statewide turnout. The Gulf Coast Brewer's League hosted the event in honor of the first anniversary of the passing of Mississippi's Home Brew Law.
Crooked Letter Brewing Company will brew the winning beer on a commercial level for a limited time. Brewer Mark Cowley says this is a great way for home brewers to get major exposure on a pro level.
"To me as a brewer, it lets me enter a beer into a competition to find out, number one, how good my beer really is and how it stacks up against to other home brewers. Then, the ultimate prize of our competition is Crooked Letters Brewing Company is our main sponsor. So, the beer that wins best in show will get brewed at the brewery," said Mark Cowley.
