DIAMONDHEAD, MS (WLOX) -

A decision handed down from the highest court in the land says Diamondhead residents must pay a $20 monthly fee for fire service. The Diamondhead Fire District is not owned by the city. It's a separate entity.

You may recall approximately 90 residents sued the district in 2009 claiming the $20 fee amounted to an illegal tax. They appealed the case to the state supreme court, and ultimately to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The $20 monthly fee amounts to $240 a year per house hold.
