Thousands of kids in Chandler to receive school supplies

Thousands of valley students will get a head start for the upcoming school year thanks to Fulton Homes and the city of Chandler.

They have been working together to collect school supplies, and one of their events included a "Stuff the Bus" program.

The bus, which was located inside Chandler Fashion Center and filled with school supplies, headed to the ICAN North Campus where volunteers unloaded everything from erasers to crayons to backpacks.

"A lot of these kids don't have the resources to be able to get a new pencil box, notebooks, and even the school uniforms that are required," said Cassie Patris-Browne, community engagement manager for the city of Chandler. "So it's so wonderful to have the kids that we love and see each day attend an event like this and get everything that they need to go to school."

The school supplies will be organized over the next few days in preparation for an event on Saturday at Chandler High School. More than 4,000 kids are expected to show up to pick up the school supplies.

"We get such wonderful feedback from youth and parents," said Browne. "That's what keeps us coming back and having partners and collaborating."

The city of Chandler teamed up with Fulton Homes to collect more school supplies.

Fulton Homes has sponsored the Stuff the Bus program for eight years, but this is the first time it's worked with the city.

"I've never seen boxes of erasers before, pencils, crayons, everything and so many backpacks," said Glenn Swain, spokesperson for Fulton Homes. "We all come together for this, for one common cause which is to have more children have all the supplies they need."
