PALO ALTO, CA (CBS5) -

Tesla Motors announced Monday it's opening a Supercharger station in Wickenburg.

Arizona is now ranked the second most Supercharger-dense state in the nation, with eight stations now operational.

The newest station is located along U.S. Route 93. It will support trips between Las Vegas and Phoenix.

Superchargers are designed for city-to-city travel, allowing Tesla Model S electric vehicle drivers to travel for about three hours, take a 20 to 30 minute break, and get back on the road charged up, the company said in a statement.

Station locations are selected to be near amenities, such as roadside diners, cafes and shopping centers.
