WAVELAND, Miss. (AP) - The city of Waveland has amended its charter to remove a prohibition on casinos.
Not that any are planned.
Mayor David Garcia says the city wanted to be able to talk with casino operators if any approached the city. He says the charter as it is now would prevent that.
Under state law, the governor's office and the attorney general's office must sign off on the change before it takes effect. The law also allows local residents to petition for an election.
Waveland is located in Hancock County on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
