MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Central Alabama CrimeStoppers is releasing a photo of the suspect wanted in connection the weekend homicide of a Montgomery store clerk and is offering its maximum reward of $1,000 for the identification and arrest of the person.

The suspect was last seen running to the left out of the store's front door.

 

Rahulkumar Patel, 26, was working his normal shift at Troy Highway Package Store, located in the 4400 block of Troy Highway, Sunday when he was shot at approximately 9:11 p.m. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Witnesses say a man armed with handgun walked into the store and fatally shot Patel. The suspect is described as a black male with light to medium complexion, wearing a purple shirt over his head and face, blue shirt, blue pants and blue tennis shoes with red soles.

The suspect was last seen running to the left out the front door.

Patel's family is seeking answers. A single candle burned just inside the closed doors of the store Monday with signs reading "CLOSED Family Emergency."

Flowers were placed outside the doors of the business as was a note explaining the community's grief. "We are very sorry for your lost [sic], We feel your pain as a community that knows Death so well No amount of words can heal your pain but just to know you are in our prayers!" the sign reads.

While the victim's family did not want to go on camera, they said their loved one had worked at the store for five years and there had never been any problems at the business.

This is the city's 15th homicide of 2014.
