Box Office: Planet of the Apes dominates

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes dominated the box office this weekend, earning $73 million and cruising to No. 1 in its first week in theaters.

As a result, last week's top film, Transformers: Age of Extinction, dropped to No. 2 with $16.5 million. Tammy and 22 Jump Street also fell a notch to Nos. 3 and 4, bringing in $12.9 and $6.7 million, respectively.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 held steady at No. 5 with $5.8 million, as did Earth to Echo at No. 6 with $5.5 million.

At No. 7 was Deliver Us From Evil with $4.7 million. Rounding out the Top 10 were Maleficent (No. 8, $4.1. million), Begin Again (No. 9, $2.9. million) and Jersey Boys (No. 10, $2.5 million).
