PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ (CBS5/AP) -

A man who was a known flight risk escaped from a central Arizona jail by hoisting himself atop a basketball hoop, grabbing on to an overhead security fence and pulling it apart.

A report released Monday by the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office says no one was directly supervising the recreation yard when Wade Cole Dickinson escaped July 12. He remains at-large.

The report suggests Dickinson's level of physical fitness helped him flee the Camp Verde jail.

The 6'1", 190-pound former personal trainer had been awaiting transfer to a state prison after being sentenced for fraud, drugs and possession of a firearm.

Authorities said they had credible information he would try to escape. Despite that, Dickinson was under medium security with access to the recreation yard.

The U.S. Marshals Service recently joined the hunt for him.

Yavapai County Silent Witness has posted a $5,000 reward for information leading to his capture.

Dickinson, 28, was facing a possible 24-year prison sentence when he scaled a wall in the recreation yard around 2:30 p.m. on July 12, Yavapai County Sheriff's Office spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said.

Dickinson separated overhead security fencing to access the roof and climbed down to ground level, D'Evelyn said. The prisoner then ran across the parking area and was seen attempting to steal a small pickup truck parked outside a business located along Highway 260 in front of the jail.

When the business owners came outside, Dickinson ran across Highway 260 and then east along Old Highway 279 out of sight. The owners immediately called YCSO. The jail was quickly locked down and following a head count, Dickinson was confirmed missing, D'Evelyn said.

YCSO said it received a credible report just before 11 p.m. that Dickinson was seen on Middle Verde Road in the area of Interstate 17. A search comprised of multiple agencies and tracking dogs was unsuccessful.

Dickinson apparently changed clothes and is believed to be wearing a white button-up shirt, khaki pants and dirty, dark socks, sheriff's investigators said.

Motorists are urged to remain on alert for suspicious persons and use caution when entering their vehicles.

Dickinson has an extensive criminal history and has served time in both the Arizona Department of Corrections and the Yavapai County Detention Facility for convictions involving fraud, theft and forgery related offenses, as well as tracking in stolen property. He served about 16 months in ADOC between 2006 and 2007 and returned to the Yavapai County Detention Facility in 2010 and again in 2012 for fraud and identity theft charges. He was on probation at the time of his most recent arrest.

Dickinson reportedly has family in the Camp Verde and Prescott Valley communities, D'Evelyn said. Dickinson has a martial arts background and is an avid outdoorsman.

He has brown eyes and brown hair.

People who know of his whereabouts are asked to call the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office at 928-771-3260 or your local law enforcement agency.
