PHOENIX (CBS5/AP) -

Phoenix police are seeking the public's help in a 2007 assault and homicide.

Police on Saturday offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to any arrests in the slaying of 55-year-old Charles Saldate.

Authorities say Saldate was working as a security guard at a Circle K convenience store on March 23, 2007 when two men assaulted him. The victim was badly beaten.

They say the men, described as black with braided corn rows, also stole Saldate's gun before fleeing the scene.

Then on June 1, 2007, Saldate was killed outside his home minutes after arriving home from work.

Witnesses told investigators that several black males left the scene, including in a vehicle similar in description to one seen during the Circle K robbery.

Police say the vehicle is a white or tan 1980s Oldsmobile Cutlass.

Investigators said they believe the two crimes are connected.

"They're looking at all possibilities in this case but the descriptions match closely to those of the suspects in the armed robbery so these two gentlemen in the video are definitely suspects in the armed robbery and they're persons of interest in the homicide," said Silent Witness Sgt. Derek Elmore.

Anyone with information about the suspects are asked to call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO. People can also call Silent Witness detectives toll free at 1-800-343-TIPS. Your call will remain anonymous.
