A former Stanhope Elmore and Faulkner University baseball player has been called up to the Major Leagues.

Austin Adams, a Millbrook native, was called up by the Cleveland Indians, from the Triple-A affiliate Columbus Clippers, on Friday according to the Faulkner University website.

Adams was drafted by the Indians' organization in 2009 as a starting pitcher prospect, but has since transferred to the role of relief pitcher.

Adams has made 30 appearances this season for the Clippers, posting a 2-1 record with a 2.29 ERA. He has recorded 35 strikeouts in 39.1 innings of work.

In his last 19 appearances for the Clippers, Adams has been almost unhittable giving up only one run and striking out 23 batters in his last 25.2 innings of work. His ERA over that period is 0.35.

The Indians host the Chicago White Sox in a three game series starting on Saturday in Cleveland. The team will then take a break for the MLB All-Star Game.

According to the Faulkner website, Adams is the second former Eagles' player to make it to the Major League level. Adams played for the Eagles from 2006-2009.
