Springfield native, U.S. Marine passes away, flags ordered to half-staff

Jacksonville, NC (WSHM) -

A Springfield native who served as a U.S. Marine passed away due to injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident in Jacksonville, NC last week.

Gov. Deval L. Patrick has ordered that the United States flag and the Commonwealth flag be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise until sunset on July 14, in honor of Lance Corporal Sean Michael Dougan, 20, U.S. Marine Corps, who passed away July 2.

Dougan was a 2012 graduate of Minnechaug Regional High School in Wilbraham.

Dougan served in the Marine Special Operations Command and 2D Marine Special Operations Support Battalion. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC.

Flags at all state military installations and state-owned or state-controlled buildings will be lowered to half-staff Monday morning.
