BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Construction on the new baseball stadium in downtown Biloxi could be facing more setbacks.

Wednesday afternoon contractors, sub-contractors, and tax payers filled city hall to hear the construction bids regarding the upcoming MGM ball park at Beau Rivage. The lowest contractor bid of $32.37 million was $5 million more than the city's initial budget.

"I'm a little disappointed, but that's what the game is all about. We have to bid it out and see what happens," Biloxi Mayor A.J. Holloway said. "We're analyzing them now, we're looking through them, my team is, and we don't know what to think right now. It's pretty much out of our budget."

Mayor Holloway said worse case scenario is they may have to start from square one, and  that's if they can't cut costs.

"We're going to look at it, see what we can cut and what we can't cut, and we might have to go through the process again," Mayor Holloway said.

Despite the financial battle, the owner of the new Biloxi baseball team, Tim Bennett, believes it'll all work out.

"You should see a dust storm over there across from Beau Rivage. A lot of work, a lot of work. We've done a lot of work at this point, but we've really got to pull our boots up and get busy," Bennett said.

"We're committed to building a baseball stadium in Biloxi, and regardless of the outcome today, we'll find a way to make it work and we'll find the resources and we'll be playing baseball next year," Councilman Kenny Glavan said confidently.

Next week, there will be a special meeting with the Biloxi City Council, so they can begin with the process of selecting a contractor and moving forward with the project.

If the stadium is not completed in time, the city of Biloxi will have to pay a $10,000 fine for each game missed.
