RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Rankin County Chief Investigator Raymond Duke says, on Monday, deputies pulled over 35-year-old Margaret Lopez Carillo for a traffic stop after they noticed two young girls, ages 5 and 12, inside the car without wearing any seat belts.

Carillo gave investigators permission to search.

They say they found a crack pipe in clear view and two bags of methamphetamine in the pockets of the 5 year old.

The young girls were Carillo's daughters.

"During his investigation he developed information that let him believe it was possible methamphetamine was hidden on one of the juveniles," said Rankin County Chief Investigator Raymond Duke.

The 12 year old told investigators that her mom, Carillo, told her to hide the drugs in her sister's pants pockets.

"How can a mother do something so awful do something so awful to their child? I mean it's just not right, you don't do things like that to your children, why would you even do that? What if that child would have put that in its mouth, where would the child be right now," said Allie Setton, a mother who lives in Madison.

Carillo is facing felony possession of a controlled substance and obstruction of Justice charges.

The children are in DHS custody.

"We have no control at this point where the children go but I seriously doubt they'll be immediately placed back in the mom's custody," Duke explained.

Carillo is set to be arraigned sometime later this week.
