BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The election results certified by the Mississippi Republican Party and sent to the Secretary of State's office Monday show Sen. Thad Cochran with a 7,667 vote victory over Chris McDaniel. A Cochran campaign spokesman notes that spread is about a 1,000 votes bigger than Cochran had on election night.
Since the election, McDaniel supporters have been looking for voting irregularities that could have tainted the final results. That search continues this week in circuit clerks office across Mississippi. Both McDaniel and Cochran supporters are reviewing voting books and ballots.
After Monday's review, the Cochran team sent out a news release that said the number of questionable votes the two staffs uncovered "are drastically lower than the wild claims made by the McDaniel campaign."
McDaniel was in Biloxi Monday. He vowed to challenge the results in court. "We have to find integrity in the voting process," said McDaniel. "We're going to find that in Mississippi and restore integrity one way or the other."
