Officials: Hwy. 53 asphalt spill will cause traffic delays

LYMAN, MS (WLOX) - A tanker truck carrying asphalt has overturned on Highway 53 near Lumpkin Road, according to Mississippi Highway Patrol Lt. Johnny Poulos. Authorities say there are no reported injuries, but a large amount of asphalt has spilled out onto the road.

Harrison County Fire Marshal Pat Sullivan tells us it will take crews at least a few hours to clean up the mess. He said Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality officials are on the way to the scene to evaluate potential damage.

Sullivan recommends motorists avoid this area if possible to avoid delays.
