GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A family is grieving the loss of six pets after a house fire ripped though a Gulfport home on Sunday morning. Gulfport Fire Department Battalion Chief Chris Henderson said two dogs and four birds were lost in the house fire at 14352 East Side Avenue.
Henderson said crews responded to the structure fire shortly after 10:30 a.m. He said it took 16 firefighters 30 minutes to get the blaze under control.
Authorities said the family made it out of the fire safely, and there were no civilian or fire injuries.
Fire investigators determined the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction. Henderson said the American Red Cross is helping the family with immediate needs.
