BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

This Fourth of July weekend was the grand opening for Kress Live, a new venue addition to the downtown Biloxi area.

"Since Kress is open, we've really done well with the late night. A lot of times when people get done drinking and dancing, they want to come grab something to eat, so they'll come by and sit out on the patio. Sometimes up until day break," Fillin' Station owner Jerry Johnston said.

Johnston has been in the bar business for years now and says in a matter of three days, Kress Live has already been a great addition to the downtown area.

"It's just exciting to see Biloxi doing something that people that do come in town, they do say it's a shame that we have all this beautiful architecture around. We have this nice little city, there should be more outside the casinos, and that's what it's adding. It's adding things outside the casinos," Johnston said.

Cliff Horne, of Gulfport, says his family comes to downtown Biloxi often. He says he looks forward to seeing the area pull in even more locals and tourists.

"We've been on the beach a lot this weekend, at the islands, and I can see the tourism is starting to come back strong and I think it'll just help all of that. I think the more business, the more people to come. If you build it, they'll show up," Horne said.

"Any time that they put something here, all the way to Zeppelin's across the street, it's brought more people downtown. Sometimes people worry if it's going to hurt your business or shut you down. No, it's going to help. It kind of helps flourish. We feed off of each other," Johnston added.
