JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

There are approximately 20 to 30 million slaves in the world today and 70-80 percent of them are sex slaves.

According to the U.S. State Department, 600,000 to 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders every year. More than 70 percent of them are female and half are children.

A nonprofit out of Missouri is working to end the massive global problem of sexual exploitation and trafficking.

When the Saints is embarking on a 20 state cross-country "Close to Home" screening tour of their self-titled documentary When the Saints.

According to Unicef, every 2 minutes a girl is trafficked for the purpose of sexual exploitation. Her average age is 13. Currently 1 percent of all trafficking victims are rescued.

When the Saints explores God's mission to fight sexual exploitation in the heart of Malawi, Africa. The filmmakers believe that change must start from within and are looking to our country's churches to lead the way.

The 20-state tour plans to host 60 screenings from June 15, 2014 to August 25, 2014 for congregations throughout the country.

Their team will be in the Jackson area and hosting a screening July 15 at 7 pm at We Will Go Ministries.

All screenings are free and open to the public.

In addition to viewing the film, screening events will include time for worship, sharing & prayer, response, and a Q&A period with When the Saints director and WtS founder, David Peterka.

For a list of locations and times visit the film's website or Facebook Events page.
