BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

A man from China is behind bars in Harrison County for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in the Mississippi Sound. Biloxi Police Investigator Nick Sonnier said Chen Chen Zhao, 20, has been charged with sexual battery.

Sonnier said the assault happened in the water near the 900 block of Beach Boulevard. Authorities said witnesses reported a woman screaming for help out in the water. Sonnier said the witnesses shined a light out in the direction of the screams and found a woman struggling to get away from Zhao.

Sonnier said the woman was transported to the hospital where she was treated for injuries consistent with sexual assault.

Authorities said investigators collected enough evidence to arrest Zhao on the charge of sexual battery. He is being held at the Harrison County Jail on a $100,000 bond, and is also being held for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Sonnier said the investigation is ongoing. If you have information about this incident, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-877-787-5898.
