ST. MARTIN, MS (WLOX) - 40-year-old Jesse Kanode has jumped full-speed ahead into his new assignment as the Yellow Jackets new athletic director.
Two weeks ago he was watching St. Martin compete in a 7-on-7 football tournament at Harrison Central.
While he's no longer calling the shots as a high school baseball coach... Kanode will be involved in every sport at St. Martin High School.
Kanode said,"There's been some challenges but its been very exciting. There's some good people to work with over there." He added,"I think St. Martin is headed in the right direction athletically and I'm fortunate to be a part of it."
Kanode graduated from Mercy Cross High School in 1991. The St. Martin native began his coaching career at Mercy Cross as an assistant coach and after one season, Kanode was named head coach.
"We kind of built the program up a little bit there, facility wise,"Kanode stated. "We had some good kids and some good seasons."
He led the Crusaders baseball program for four seasons before making a move to Ocean Springs High School, becoming an assistant coach with the Greyhounds in 2003.
In 2005, Kanode was named Ocean Springs head coach.
He said,"At Ocean Springs we had some magical seasons at Ocean Springs. We had some really really good kids who played above their heads and did really good work in the classroom and the community. It was just a good place."
He thanked Ocean Springs athletic director Mark Hubbard for all his help and the school board.
Kanode led the Greyhounds to success on the diamond, claiming division championships in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2013.
