HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Leaders at a Huntsville city elementary school declared their support for the school board's rezoning plan Monday.

The Monte Sano Elementary Parent-Teacher Association and the Monte Sano Civic Association sent letters to federal judge Madeline Hughes Haikala.

Both letters point out what the authors call "unsafe routes" which school buses would have to travel if Judge Haikala chooses the Department of Justice's rezoning plan over the school board's plan.

The judge must sign off on any rezoning plan for Huntsville City Schools due to a long-standing desegregation order.
